Here are the exam which you have to pass to become an IPS officer
1. Preliminary ExaminationThe preliminary examination will consist of two papers of objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks. This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only.
2. Main Examination
The main examination will consist of 9 papers in total comprising of conventional essay type questions.
3. Interview/Personality TestThe interview will carry 275 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).
Marks obtained by the candidates (in the main examination as well as interview) would determine their final ranking.
Candidates will be posted to various services keeping in view their ranks in the examination and the preferences expressed by them for the various services and posts.

As such, there is no particular course for joining armed forces. Please find the eligibility criteria for NDA and CDS examination:
NDA Exam Eligibility:
1. For Army Wing of NDA
Candidate must be 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University
2. For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA and for 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at Naval Academy
Candidates appearing for National Defence Academy Examination must be 12th Class pass I.e. the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University
Those who are taking +2 final exam or appeared in the said exam in the present year can also appear for the entrance test provisionally subject to their fulfilling the conditions later.
Other Eligibility Conditions:
1. Educational Qualification
The desiring candidates should be +2 from a recognized board or equivalent in the specified streams for various branches of the Defense Services
2. Age
The candidate should be between 16-1/2 to 19 years of age.
The eligibility criteria for CDS examination:
(I) For I.M.A. and Officers Training Academy: Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
(ii) For Indian Naval Academy: Degree in Engineering from a recognized university/institution.
(iii) For Air Force Academy: Degree of a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.
Note: Those candidates who are studying in the final year's Degree course and have yet to pass the final year Degree examination are also eligible to apply.
