Established in 2003- 2004 by the government of TN, Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) is for open and distance learning courses. The university is recognised by the UGC, Distance Education Council (DEC), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu offers 200+ undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, PG diploma and vocational diploma courses across various specialisations. Tamil Nadu Open University offers both B.Ed and B.Ed Spl.Ed. for two-year each. Below is the minimum academic qualification required to apply for any of the programmes:

The total strength for seats for B.Ed admission is 1,000. These aspirants are admitted to Tamil medium (500 students) and English medium (500 students) based on rank list separately prepared for each medium. A total of 50 students are allotted to each Learner Support Centre. Candidates can get a seat in B.Ed based on their merit in UG/ PG examination.

Before submitting the applications, candidates shall register on the online admission portal. Once registered, users can submit the online application form. In order to support their eligibility, they shall also upload scanned copies of their academic transcripts. The application submission process is completed through OTP received on the registered number.
STEP 2: Selection Criteria
Tamil Nadu Open University selects candidates based on their merit in the qualifying exam. Selected candidates need to participate in the admission counselling. During the counselling process, candidates are allotted learner support centers. The final step of admission is to pay the TNOU BSc fees.
TNOU offers two-year B.Ed Special Education in distance education mode via the Department of Special Education and affiliated colleges. The course is spread across four semesters. The duration is two-years for candidates with RCI recognised D.Ed Specialisation Education, Candidates can complete the programme within a maximum period of four years, after enrolment.
For candidates who does not possess any RCI recignised D.Ed Special Education, the duration of the course is two and a half years. However, the student is permitted to complete the programme within a maximum period of 5 years, after enrolment.
