It depends on which semester, you wish to apply to0. If you wish to join fall semester (August/September), you can apply as early as November of the previous year. For the spring semester (Jan/Feb), you can start applying 7-8 months prior to the commencement of the course. Remember, for some universities, the earlier you apply better will be your chances to get admission.

I will suggest you to take a diagnostic test first, it's available online and also on the ETS website, the official website for GRE. After you take the diagnostic test a couple of times you will know your standing and if you need external help and how much work you need to be doing on get the scores right. Even while you are preparing keep taking these mock tests regularly and keep comparing your improvement. Check Jamboree, Khan Academy and Manya Abroad. These are some famous ones.

There are two ways you can apply to different universities. One is applying on test day, after you complete giving the GRE which is mentioned below, and second is applying after you have received your scores, which can be checked on the website (https://www.ets.org/gre)
Once you finish the GRE you will be prompted to either cancel or report your scores. Having a good GRE score is definitely an advantage, and will give you the edge over your competition. Although just a GRE score is not enough. One must also have a good academic background and if you are applying for a PG degree, you need to have a strong UG degree. Moreover, you need to be adept in your communication skills. You may have to appear for a language proficiency test, if required. You will also need letters of recommendation from your current or previous employer for PG courses. An average of 2 years of relevant work experience is also required. Regards.

Hi Jalaj, practice makes it perfect, you must revise and practice regularly. Firstly, it is good to take a mock test before starting the preparation. You will know where you stand in the beginning. Then onwards make your routine, identify your areas of weakness and areas where you are good at. Mock tests must be taken once or twice a week and you should track your improvement. Many online materials are found on ETS website. Keep checking and practicing.
