I imagine you will be pursuing engineering, and are seeking which of the degrees is more beneficial for you. CSE and IT have almost 90 percent same subjects for engineering. All the important computer-related CA, OS or microprocessors. Only some hardware labs for CSE and software labs for IT differ. CSE is older stream, it has been released rather recently. So there's just a hype for CSE being better. Old is not always gold. Now, the important part comes where software engineers are most desperate for. The money. Placements really don't matter which stream you are from, at the end they are all looking for your coding skills. Both are equally eligible for all software companies. Even in terms of research, having CSE doesn't offer you any special preference. In the end it comes down to what project you have done. I would advice to not for what stream you choose, they are both the same things with different names and slight difference in the undergrad level. I am talking with the reference to engineering education in India. What matters is where you will be doing your course from, there which of the departments has better faculty members and if they have some glorious records. There might be differences at the postgraduate level. But I won't put one before another.
