Participating in the entrance exam is the first step. The majority of B.Tech specialisations, such as CSE, ECE, Mechanical, etc., require a qualifying percentile in JEE Main. However, some programmes, especially less competitive ones, may take into account results from the university-conducted GUET. Depending on the programme and entrance exam, individuals who made the short list may be invited to attend the counselling phase, which is the second step.

After all qualifying requirements, admission exam results, and any further evaluations made during counselling are taken into consideration, a merit list is created. 70–75 % is the recommended minimum JEE score range. Depending on how competitive the market is, the JEE percentile varies annually.
