Though many degree programs are offered in German language but still there are a number of courses whose instruction language is English. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology encourages the international students, even before participating in an exchange programme in Germany, to achieve minimum A2/B1 Certificate level of German language proficiency. KIT, Germany also offers language courses before and during the lecture periods for international students.

Like most German universities, KIT mandates the submission of the proof of one's German language proficiency. Undergraduate students can submit a German language certificate to prove the same. The university will accept DSH2, Test DaF 4444, DSD 2 of German schools abroad, German Language Test, Goethe Certificate C2, Deutsch C1 Hochschule.

As per latest available data, KIT currently houses 22,761 students as of Winter Semester 2024/25.
