TU Munich ranks marginally higher for Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (#19 worldwide) compared to KIT's Mechanical Engineering subject rank (#32 worldwide) in QS 2026. If budget is a major factor, though, KIT's lower fees can offset the ranking gap for many applicants.

Both are competitive, but TU Munich's admits tend to be more selective for popular master's programmes given its higher overall QS ranking and application volume. KIT's non-restricted programmes offer comparatively more accessible entry points for well-qualified applicants, though its NC (restricted) engineering and computer Science programmes remain competitive.
