If you want to pursue MA Economics, having a background in BA Economics or BSc Economics will be an added benefit. Your score in graduation can also be considered as a parameter for admission into the course, as many colleges set 50% marks as an important eligibility criteria.
Also, one can easily pursue an MA in Economics without a BA in Economics. There are Many universities that offer Economics MA degree to a range of undergraduate candidates, including those from sciences.

Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University offers a 2 year M.A. in Economics course at the PG level. The total fee for M.A. in Economics at SNDT Women's University in Mumbai for the year 2024 ranges between INR 26.7 K- INR 1.7 Lakhs. The course offers admission to 40 students. SNDT admission is entrance based for courses offered at UG, PG, and Certificate levels.

The University has released the overall placement data for PG courses such as MA and MLS. During 2023 placements, 37 MA/ MLS students were placed. Earlier, 32 students were placed during the 2022 drive. Looking at the past three years' record (2021 to 2023), a year-on-year growth was recorded in the number of MA/ MLS students placed. The Ashoka University placement trends for Master’s courses are depicted below:

The University of Montreal entry requirements for MA in Economics are:
- A bachelor’s degree
- Students must have very good Mathematical skills
- Undergraduates of other fields can also be excellent fit for this program
