Do, absolutely, go for it. It is much better than going for an MBA (unless the MBA serves a grand plan of yours). With an M.Des in hand, sooner or later you'll find yourself wanted badly by the industry. The Indian manufacturing/services mindset is changing, and we are moving towards more of a 'build a brand' mindset. The things that'd get us there are:
a) Greatly designed products and services
b) Great marketing
A design course would not just give you the skills that the industry needs, but also a way of thinking that unlocks doors.

Hi Sunaini,
Admission procedure and the requirements vary from university to university, certainly, most of them would require you to hold a relevant education qualification, also a portfolio must be provided as part of your application where you can show your creative skills and ideas. You must also take the IELTS or TOEFL to meet the English language proficiency requirements. You are eligible to seek admission in M.Design at NID and IITs after B.Tech Automobile Engineering as you meet M.Design eligibility criteria: " Passed a degree / Diploma / post graduate degree programme of 4 years or 3+2 years (after 10+2 level) Or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program" Admission in MDesign at NIDs is based on two-stage Design Aptitude tests.

Yes, you can go for M.Design. To apply for M.Design, you need to complete graduation with at least 50%.
Some reputed institutes conduct entrance exams for selection.

Hi,
Yes, you are eligible to apply for M.Des. After completing graduation, you can apply for CEED or M.Des.
All applicants will have to undergo the Design Aptitude Test.
Educational Qualification: Applicants must either have appeared for (results awaited), passed, or will be appearing for any of the following degree examinations before July 2017:
Bachelors degree in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system, from any university or institute recognized by law in India.

NID has a 4-year Bachelor of Design program wherein the first year is foundation while the following years are spent in specialising in a field of your choice (out of 8 disciplines), the syllabus thereby varies greatly. NID also offers a Master's degree programme in Design for a period of 2 years offering a range of other disciplines, each with a different syllabus.
