Both have equal scopes and advantages. You can achieve great heights if you do Ph.D. in whatever you choose. Physics has mathematics embedded in it. It actually depends on what you are really passionate about. I always suggest follow your passion, as it helps you to move ahead with the right zeal. There is no trend as such, you do what you like, and work hard and with full dedication and determination in that field and set a trend.

Good question. M.Sc in mathematics deals mainly with abstract mathematics. Like modern algebra, real analysis etc. which has no real use in the life. On the other hand, applied mathematics deals with the mathematics which is used in physics, chemistry and engineering etc. In other words, used somewhere.

M.Sc (Mathematics): Admission
Usually, the admission process starts in the month of March/April where the colleges announce the notification and application form, both online and offline.
Direct Admission
Few universities offer admission in M.Sc courses through merit basis as well as through entrance test, like Delhi University reserves 50% of its seats for merit basis admissions.
Entrance exam:
Colleges like Loyola College-Chennai, IIT-Kanpur and IIT-Delhi conduct entrance test for taking admissions into the course. Students selected through entrance test would further have to go through the personal interview before final selection.

Hello Akash,
For admission into M.Sc programs at IITs, you need to clear IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc). The admission is done through that exam only.
