Total marks of MAT exam is 150. Every question carries one mark for correct attempt and there is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. No marks is deducted for skipping questions. The MAT question paper has 150 questions equally divided into five sections - Language Comprehension, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, Data Analysis & Data Sufficiency, Mathematical Skills and Economic and Business Environment.

Start building up the fundamentals and get conceptual clarity on the topics which fall in your weak areas

Start your basic preparation by researching about these exams and checking previous year question papers. If you would like to prepare from home at your own then you need to work a lot harder in finding what is relevant to study as these exams are not just about attempting but knowing what to attempt.
In my opinion, being from Kolkata, you should enroll yourself in one of the coaching classes or may be mock test series which is a must. Start reading newspaper daily to increase your reading speed and grasping power. Don't miss out the editorial page. Do proper analysis of articles on editorial page.
