Hi Amit, MD Dermatology is a final degree. MD Medicine is not as you can go on to do DM and then a Fellowship. For example you could do DM Cardiology and then a Fellowship in Cardiac EP. So, as far as further studies and sub-specialisation is concerned, MD Gen Med has better prospects.

But if by prospects you mean future earnings, then it is a matter of luck and chance. You could go on to become a highly successful dermatologist or a middling cardiologist. In my opinion you should assess your circumstances and where you see yourself 5 to 10 years from now and then decide what you want to do. Hope this information helps. Please feel free

In terms of career options both the courses have better prospectus currently as well in future also. Medical technology industry in India Riding the growth curve. Healthcare has become one of India's largest sectors both in terms of revenue and employment. India is cost competitive compared to Asia and Western countries. The cost of surgery in India is about one-tenth of that in the US or Western Europe.

Hi James,
Most of the students think that once we enter a medical college, we just have to treat patients and don't have much dynamic career options like other professions. That is certainly not the case. MD/MS/Diploma - This is the most commonly chosen path after MBBS for people who wish to continue with their medical career.
You can pursue post graduation in various specialties like internal medicine, general surgery, obs. & gynecology, pediatrics, etc. For this you need to give AIPGMEE exam, held in December every year. There's no need to mention about the scope of this field as specialist Doctors are the need of the hour. MD/MS are

Hi Parv,
US does not recognize a dental license from India. The person must complete DDS from USA and be licensed through one of the boards (eastern, california, etc.) to be able to practice .Colleges which offer Advanced Standing Program (DDS/DMD) to foreign trained dentists require at least NDEB Part I. Most of the dental schools which offer this program require at least 83%.Foreign dental students can get into the Advanced Placement program of DDS wherein they join in the 2nd year of the program.
Typically, yearly expenses are in the range of US $ 80,000 to one lakh dollar. So, a two year program will cost US $1,60,000 to US $200,000.

Hi Rati,
Traditionally, those who do net get admission in MBBS, go for BDS. But now a days, there is a huge scope for BDS if you can have your own clinic with modern equipment.
Plain MBBS will not do unless you follow it up with MD/MS. If you compare salaries in hospitals, MBBS will always get higher remunerations compared to BDS.

Hi Parul,
If you have enough money to splurge, you could buy yourself a PG Medical specialization seat. Pointing to the widespread corruption in the education system of the country, medical seats in the country are being offered for as much as 1.5 crore. Paying such a huge amount might ensure you a bright future but is a PG medical seat worth all the money?
