• To be eligible to pursue a Music Course, the candidates are required to complete the basic course in vocal or instrumental music.
• There are three undergraduate programs: BA  (Hons in Music),  BFA  (Music) and B.PA (Music). Besides, to pursue a year's undergraduate course, the candidate must have passed the Class 12 board examination with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in aggregate (45% marks for reserved category candidates).
• Those who have appeared for the Class 12 Board examination are also eligible for the course but have to submit their final mark sheet at the time of admission to the varsity. 
• To pursue a postgraduate course,  the candidate needs to have completed an undergraduate course in music (either vocal or instrumental). 

The eligible candidates would have to sit for a national-level admission test for the purpose.

The eligibility criteria for Music courses vary depending on the level of study and the institution, to be eligible to pursue a Music Course, the candidates are required to complete the basic course in vocal or instrumental music.

Undergraduate:

A 12th-grade education (any stream: Arts, Commerce, or Science) with a background in music (either classical or other forms) or passing an entrance exam/auditions. 

For BFA/BMus in Music, a background in music (either classical, vocal, or instrumental) is often preferred.

Some colleges might accept candidates without prior music education if they pass an entrance exam or audition.

Postgraduate:

 A bachelor's degree in music (BA in Music, BMus, BFA in Music) or a related field.

Some institutions may allow applicants from other fields, provided they have proficiency in music and clear an entrance exam or interview.

Universities offering Masters in music in Varanasi and Lucknow.

Foremost among institutes conflated with Varanasi is Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Its Master of Music (M.Mus) programme spans comprehensively these aspects-how-to-theory, performance and pedagogy-words relevant to the music subject.

Beyond, there's Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University in Lucknow, which has also launched the Master of Music, comprising both components of music education in practical and theoretical terms.

The University of Lucknow, besides, offers a Master of Music degree focusing on traditional Indian musical forms.

Of course, they have very strong curricula and experienced faculty members and are therefore good choices for pursuing graduate studies in music.

To apply to the B.A. in Hindustani Music programme under Bharati Vidyapeeth, follow a structured procedure for admission. First and foremost, complete your eligibility criteria that involve passing on 12th grade or similar examination. Admissions are held through a procedure of registration for the Common Entrance Test (CET) taken by Bharati Vidyapeeth. After registration, you will have to face an audition test in front of a panel of acknowledged scholars, as this is the most important part of the selection process for music programs. After you clear the entrance and audition tests, the results will be declared, and candidates will be called for counselling on merit. In any case, upon receiving an admission offer, tuition fees to the required amount need to be paid to confirm a seat in that particular program.
