With a 95.59 percentile in JEE Mains Session 1 and General category, your opportunity to get a seat in one of the top NITs is small, particularly in high-demand streams such as Computer Science or Electronics. But you might have a shot in lower NITs or for less sought-after streams such as Civil, Metallurgy, or Biotechnology. The matching Common Rank List (CRL) rank would probably be somewhere in the 45,000–55,000 range, and that is potentially eligible for newer NITs or home state quota seats, depending on your home state and branch preference. Last resort is subject to cutoffs in later rounds and whether your Session 2 score increa

The IITs and NITs are no doubt highly regarded and enjoy an excellent NIRF ranking for their MTech courses, but there are various other top private and government colleges where you can study M.Tech courses in India.

Some of the best student choices for government M.Tech colleges are Jadavpur University, DTU, Jamia Millia Islamia, College of Engineering (Pune), IIITs, and NSUT Delhi. Coming to the private colleges, you can consider VIT Vellore, BITS Pilani, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, LPU, Chandigarh University, and Thapar University.

Rest; it is better to research the colleges, specializations, fee structure, and placement

Based on previous years' data, a score of 56 marks in JEE Main usually places students within the 70 to 80 percentile range. But there is very less chance that you get any good NIT for this percentile.

But for ST category you may get lower branch in lower NIT.

Over the past three years, the JEE Main cutoff trends at top NITs have shown a gradual increase, especially for competitive branches like Computer Science. For example, the closing rank for CSE at NIT Trichy moved from around 1679 in 2023 to 1245 in 2024, and further up to 1159 in 2025 for the General category. Similar trends are seen at NIT Surathkal and NIt Warangal, where CSE cutoffs have become more competitive each year.

Cutoff percentiles for the General category have also increased, with the qualifying mark rising from about 90.77 in 2023 to 93.23 in 2024, and around 93.10 in 2025. Reserved categories like OBC, SC and ST have low

After reading that you got only 52.6 score in JEE Mains I was shocked and you are expecting a seat in NIT but after knowing you belong to SC category then I can answer. With a 52.6 score in JEE Mains and SC category, chances of NIT admission are low but possible in lower-ranked NITs or less preferred branches under home state quota. Cutoffs vary yearly, so apply through JoSAA counselling, keep options wide, and also consider IIITs, GFTIs, or state colleges.

No , you cannot get Computer Science in an NIT without having Maths in class 11th and 12th. While you scored 98 percentile in JEE Mains, which is generally considered a good score, and might get you into some NITs, having Maths in class 11th and 12th is a mandatory eligibility requirement for NIT admissions, especially for Computer Science.
