It is quite difficult, if you belong to general category or OBC category, but if you are a SC or ST, then there is a chance to get low rank NITs, so if you are SC or ST, then you must participate in counselling may you got it.
But, if you belong to general category, then you must try in BIT.

There is no major difference in marks of general and OBC category to get admission in a good NIT. You really need a minimum score of 150 marks to get into an NIT.

You need to score above 170 marks in JEE Mains to get admission for mechanical in a good NIT.

IIITs, BiTS Pilani, BIT Mesra, IIST, DTU, NSIT, VIT, SRM, Manipal University, Shiv Nadar University, Thapar University, Anna University, etc. are good universities for doing engineering besides IITs and NITs.

NIT considers the category rank for admission.

JEE Mains marks are considered for admission in NITs.

If your home state region is Karnataka, you may get it in last rounds, but if you belong to states other than Karnataka then the chances are very less.

Based on your marks you will get NIT-Patna, BIT-Mesra and in the last round you will get SPA, Bhopal.

As per your marks in JEE Mains you may not get any reputed government or private colleges, as boards marks are not considerable from this year onwards, you may also take different state and national level examinations like BITSAT VITEE, SRMJEE, WBJEE, COMEDK, CUSAT, etc. but if you fail to get any good college then you better drop a year and prepare for the best.
