Petroleum engineering is a good engineering course. It has a huge scope in India as well as abroad. Petroleum engineering has huge advantage because number of petroleum engineers in India are very low. Salary is also good than other engineering courses.

Hi Manisha,
You do have a chance to get Petroleum Engineering if you've applied on the basis of Board Merit i.e Non Exam Pathway. But your UPESEAT Rank is too low to get into a low preffered branch in UPES. In order to get Petroleum, your UPESEAT Rank must be less than 600.
Hope this information helps. Please feel free to revert. Click on the thumbs up or mark it as the best, if you found this useful.
Wish You Luck!

Hi Abhishek,
I highly recommend University of Petroleum and Energy Studies for Petroleum Engineering program. This university has great faculty, infrastructure and placement records. Moreover, Oil and Gas programs are flagship programs of this university, so doing Petroleum Engineering from there is definitely the best bet. Good luck!

Petroleum Engineering is different from Petrochemical engineering. Basically, petroleum engineering is involved in development, recovery and processing of petrol and related products. Whereas Petrochemical engineering involves in refining and development of petroleum products and other sub-products from petroleum and other natural resources.
The following are the institutes that offer courses related to petroleum and petrochemical engineering. You can look at the eligibility criteria on the institute pages.

Hi Naman,
Doing petroleum engineering from abroad is indeed a good idea as it opens the door for opportunities not only in India but also in the country where you plan to complete your course. Having said that, you also need to evaluate the involved costs associated with the course. You can expect tuition fee in excess of Rs.20 Lakhs for a two year course in Australia. But it is worth an investment. Do let me know in case you require any specific info on any University and associated entry requirements for the course.

Hi,
* Scope :
Petroleum engineers are employed in jobs which are mainly concentrated in oil and gas extraction, professional, scientific and technical services and petroleum refining.

One can also entail the option of working as a scientist/researcher to carry out the R&D processes.
Employment is rest assured for graduates in this sector as the number of graduates passing out is always less than the number of jobs available.

Despite the fact that petroleum engineering is an attractive and high paying career option, not much information is available on it. Typically, a petroleum engineering graduate is given the job to discover natural sources of oil and examine the same. Similarly, developing the latest machines and equipments which can be used in the extraction and processing of oil is part of the job of a petroleum engineer. Petroleum engineers have global career and are hired by global oil companies.Career prospects are quite attractive in petroleum sector as petroleum companies have great influence and offer attractive salaries to employees.
