Dear Gurmit,
Knowing how to code is a great skill. Doesn't matter if you're in sales or engineering. Start with Python. It's very powerful plus it's a lot easier to learn than C.
It really depends on what you want to achieve. I know many CEs who never do any sort of programming. It definitely isn't part of your daily activities.
But I also know a great many who do "program" as a sideline because they wanted to automate some tasks. These are very much tied to the software they use. E.g. if using something like AutoDesk's C3D chances are they do their "programming" in AutoLisp, or DotNet (C#/VBNet or more recently IronPython/-Ruby). But the

Pankaj, I am not sure how good you are with maths and programming. If you are, then you must pick up Programming and take a language whether PHP/ HTML5 (web dev), .Net (for software dev) Java/ Android (for apps) or C#/ Unity (for games). However like i mentioned, you must be good with programming to move ahead in this area since you have to compete with MCAs and BTech(CS) applicants. So choose your internship/ industrial training very carefully. Do not just go for the cheapest to save money. See the IT company's credentials on the net. for example if someone provide LIVE PROJECTS are they there near the TOP on PORTALS like JUSTDIAL? Or

Core Java ,C, C+, C# are all embedded technologies and all of them have tremendous scope. If you are a Sun Certified professional (JAVA) you have more scope and job openings in the mobile software too.Salary will depend on your performance during the time of interview. Starting salary is from Rs.20,000/-.
