No, it is not necessary to have Psychology as a special subject. You need to have completed 10+2 to apply for the course in graduation.

You can simply score 10+2 with 50 to 60% marks and become eligible to apply for BA in Psychology in India. Opt for Arts/Humanities in 10+2 (not a mandate). Account and Science pass outs can anyway apply for BA courses.

You will have to check the eligibility criteria of the college where you wish to pursue BA in Psychology from. However, as per my knowledge Psychology is not mandatory to pursue the BA Psychology and BA Psychology (Hons.) both as many schools do not offer Psychology as a subject in 10+2.

You will need to check with the University for such Specific Details.
However, I think that since the course is via distance/correspondence you can pursue the course, but will have to appear for the exams at designated centers. But, I would recommend you to connect with the university for more details.

Assuming that you have never studied psychology before in school or otherwise. I would suggest that first you go through NCERT books of class 11 and 12 psychology. Once you are clear about the concepts there. You can move on to a graduation level book of psychology. A book called "Intro. To psychology" by Robert Baron is a must. It covers all most all basics and is a recommended reading in most undergraduate courses of psychology. In addition to that there is a wonderful online course on psychology by Yale University conducted by Professor Paul bloom. You can find it on YouTube. These lectures are easy to understand and professor Bloom
