PTE exam, in 2026, continues to be a 2-hour-long computer-based test that needs to be taken at an authorised test centre. PTE assesses English proficiency of the test takers on the basis of 4 key skills - Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. It comprises 22 types of integrated skills tasks that focus on real-life communication. Scoring is done by a trained AI algorithm, where only certain tasks are also checked by human experts. The main change in the exam pattern that the test takers will come around are in the number of questions for each task type - as the same has been changed since the addition of two new tasks back in 2025.

In 2026, the PTE Academic is a 2-hour computer-based test scored on a scale of 10 to 90 points. The scoring is "integrated," meaning a single task often contributes marks to two different sections. For example, Read Aloud gives points to both Speaking and Reading.
If you are an Indian student aiming for a top-tier UK university, focus 70% of your effort on Repeat Sentence, Fill in the blanks and Write from Dictation tasks.

A computer-based examination of English competence, the PTE Academic is intended for non-native English speakers who want to study, work, or immigrate overseas. Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening are the four main areas in which the test evaluates proficiency. The Speaking and composing portion (54–67 minutes) includes both written and spoken assignments, such as composing essays, summarising spoken material, and creating personal introductions. The Reading portion (29–30 minutes) uses multiple-choice questions, paragraph reordering, and fill-in-the-blanks to assess comprehension. Lastly, the Listening part (30–43 minutes)
