No, the short answer type section of Quantitative Aptitude section will not have negative markings.

The IPMAT exam has negative markings for the other two sections. Each question in the IPMAT exam carries four marks. And for every incorrect answer, one mark is deducted. This means that if the candidate has four correct answers then 16 marks will be added to the IPMAT overall score. If the candidate marks more than one answer for a particular question, the answer will be considered incorrect. To avoid maximum marks deduction, candidates must attempt the easier question first and then move on to the more difficult ones in that particular

Yes, there is negative marking of -1 in the Quantitative Aptitude section of CAT, but only for MCQ type questions. There is no negative marking for non-MCQ type questions. The CAT Quantitative Aptitude section is the only section that has non-MCQs. So, candidates can take a chance with non-MCQs in this section and attempt it even if they are not 100% sure. However, they must not do guess work in non-MCQs at any cost because if their chosen option is incorrect they will lose marks.

To score 99 percentile in the Quantitative Aptitude section of CAT, one needs to score around 32-34 marks in this section of CAT, thus one can say out of 22 questions, 10 to 12 correct attempts will be considered good. Candidates must note that they will get only 40 minutes for this section, so they need to carefully identify which questions to attempt and which ones to skip. They must aim for maximum accuracy (over 85%) in whichever questions they choose to attempt.
