1. Priority in getting Admission in Ph.D. then NET qualified Candidature will help a lot.
2. If you want to have a Job in Higher Education after Ph.D. then NET is the way. UGC NET is the basic requirement to apply for a job as Assistant Professor. You can join Ph.D. first and keep the NET Preparation on.

2) What you want to do in future. Think of yourself as a passenger waiting for a bus at a stop. So either you don't get a direct bus and have to change buses or you might get a direct bus. Either ways if the destination you want to reach is known to you, then everything else will fall in place.
