In the Carnot engine, the maximum possible efficiency operates between two temperatures. It is an ideal heat engine. The efficiency of the Carnot engine only depends on the temperatures of the heat source including T1 and T2. These temperatures should be in Kelvin. No real engine can exceed the efficiency of the Carnot engine.

Internal energy is the total potential energy (from intermolecular forces) and kinetic energy (from particle motion) within a system due to the motion and interactions of its particles. In simple terms, it is the total energy in a system. Internal energy changes when heat is added or removed or when the system performs some work.

The laws of thermodynamics help in understanding phenomena like refrigerators, engines and even biological processes and govern these changes.
