I think more than the scope, the interest of an individual matter for success in a particular area of law. Let's say, for example, I am interested in Taxation Law but I I pursue criminal law after my law school. I would not be working with that zeal or enthusiasm as compared to taxation law. Therefore, according to me, the interest mattes more than the scope as you can make money under any area of law and practice.
But coming to the question, most of the areas of law are interlinked. Let's say, avoiding taxes or not disclosing proper income would be a criminal offense. So, apart from the knowledge of tax law, you would also need to know fundamentals of criminal law in order to help out your client. There are several law firms which specialize in either of these. So, if you are not looking for independent practice, you can join these. But the scope of criminal law is generally wider than tax law considering each area of law has some intersection with the criminal law in some form or the other.

4: Brush up on India's political history (India after Gandhi by Ram Guha is a good start)
5: Read Economic and Political Weekly sometimes. Try to see how essays, arguments, data is used. Some of it you may not understand, but just read to see patterns, structures, language. Also read Seminar magazine Seminar Magazine, a monthly in-depth magazine, published by Seminar Publications, New Delhi especially January issue for past 4-5 years.
6: Get basic textbooks like those by Andrew Heywood. Ensure you do concepts, theory, and philosophy.
7: Acquire a copy of Oxford Companion to Politics in India (Students Edition) Read as much as you can. You may not understand all of it, but get going :)
8. Take time after a lot of reading to sit and write some argumentative essays.
10. For writing answers in the Entrance you need the following:

On an informal note, even English at Jadavpur University is considered best. So decide on others factors, like what after English and placements, which places suits you best.

The eligibility to pursue this course is that the candidate should pass 10 (+2) exam or higher secondary exam from a recognized board.

Archaeology is a career for those who have an acute interest and training in culture and history. It is preferable for candidates to have a background of ancient history and culture. The basic eligibility criteria for Bachelors course in history/ archaeology (I.e BA level) of three-year duration, is 10+2 or equivalent. After graduation one can opt for a post graduate Diploma or degree course in archaeology.
Graduates in history in any stream with an aggregate of 55% marks can apply for Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma or post graduation (MA/ M.Sc.) in different fields of archaeology. Duration of these courses may vary from 1 year to 2 years. Admission to the two year post Graduate Diploma course at the Institute of Archaeology, the academic wing of the Archeological Survey of India in New Delhi, is on the basis of a written exam and an interview.

Admission to MA program in English ideally begins around the month of February and March when Universities begin to release their application forms. Generally universities conduct entrance examination for admission to the MA program in English but there are certain universities which take admission on the basis of merit. An entrance exam is conducted separately for both the faculties.Its one of easiest exams. In the faculty of arts, there are 120 questions which are compulsory for everyone. You have to choose either English or Hindi to answer in section B which consists 30 questions. So that makes it 150.
+3 marks for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one. 0 for an unattempted one. It is an overall 450 marks paper.
Questions are easy except that bio section which has usually 20 - 25 ques. One who has not studied bio in 10+2 would find it very difficult. The score of 15/60 is very good. But even if you leave that section thoroughly still you could top the exam.
Around 25 questions are asked from mental ability, logical reasoning and elementary mathematics Level of these questions remain very ordinary and a little practice could make you able to score 100%. Avoid overconfidence.
25 to 30 questions are from history (mainly history of India). Questions are straightforward and factual in nature. Go through higher secondary level books of history. Even if you remember 20% of what you have studied, a score of over 80% is very achievable. A little interest in history and you have qualified the exam. Very scoring section.
Questions from geography and constitution along with economics have a weight of anything between 20 to 25. Knowledge of 10th level would be sufficient or you can just go through any good book of GK like Lucent or Chronicle.
Rest of the paper consists questions from current affairs, latest sports events, general science etc. This is the pattern for faculty of arts.
Faculty of social sciences follows a bit different pattern. Their questions are divided in history, economics, political science and geography. Questions are a bit harder than that of arts. Now, I am not going to repeat all that of arts.
