The West Virginia University, first opened its doors, in 1862, under the name: Agricultural College of West Virginia.

The institute was found soon after the passing of the Morris Act, by Abraham Lincoln, which provided each state about 30,000 acres of land for the development of an institute that provided agricultural & mechanical engineering education to the native student population. The institute changed its name to West Virginia University in the year 1868.

As per data curated from a prominent news platform, the West Virginia University is said to be going through some financial struggles, with a number of contributing factors at play, including revenue loss during Covid-19, reduced number of student enrolments, & increasing debt taken for the development of new building projects.

The institute is aiming to cut about 32 programs, i.e. 9% of its majors at the Morgantown campus to deal with the rising costs, among some other additional cost-cutting measures.
