The most competitive course at University of Alabama is Masters In Mechanical Engineering. This course includes the following:

·       This course is the most versatile of all engineering programmes at the university and it is designed for students who wish to apply their knowledge in mathematics, Science and general engineering

·       Mechanical engineers have pursued their careers in the automotive, aerospace, computer, communication and robotic industries after graduation.

·       The university offers this course in two routes; one in the main campus setting and the students are expected to either take a thesis on research or pass any comprehensive exam.

·       The applications for this course are assessed on a rolling basis and there are no specific deadlines, but the students who wish to apply for assistantships or want to be nominated for any fellowship, must apply for admission earlier.

·       International students should submit their application based on the time that the visa or travel would take. The process can take two to six months which is why applicants should apply early to avoid missing first day of classes.

UMBC offers scholarships or funding opportunities to international students through some of the following ways:

• Scholarships for international students are offered at the time of admission which will be in the form of merit scholarships. Some scholarships are offered for current students as well. These scholarships are offered based on their grades and test scores that have been submitted with their application
• The graduate international students can be eligible to receive funding through an Assistantship which can be a part of teaching, Research and Graduate. Assistantship offers are given by the respective academic department which based on the application documents
• International students of UMBC are ineligible for Federal Student Aid and institutional need-based financial aid.

Committed to affordability, the scholarships are designed to cover 100% of demonstrated financial need. The university provides scholarships in the form of fee concessions to encourage meritorious students. 

Merit-Based

• 100% for all male students enrolled in any programme and scoring above 95% marks in their qualifying examination.
• 50% of all male students enrolled in any programme and scored marks in the range of 90%-95% in their qualifying examination.
• All-female students enrolled in any programme and having more than 90% marks in their qualifying exams will be eligible for a 50% scholarship. However, if a female student has marks between 80% and 90%, she will receive a 20% scholarship.

Domicile Based

• 10% for students having domicile of Jharkhand and enrolled in any programme. However, those who get merit scholarships are not eligible for domicile-based scholarships.
