The Union Public Service Commission mentioned the UPSC CSE (IAS) selection process in the official notification. The Commission notified three stages for the Civil Service Exam:
- Prelims Exam
- Mains (writtern) exam
- Mains Interview

So I think you are to be a UPSE Aspirant, the very first thing you should do it right start is getting ncert books of history geography and polity, for history it should be from class 6th to class 12th, for polity and geography get books from class 6th to 9th
Secondly start to follow daily current affairs
Then make a time table and very precisely follow it, do this as this is basic of starting preparation for UPSE

To prepare for UPSC you should understand the pattern of the exam.
There are 3 exams: Pre, Mains, and Interview
Start with NCERT books (Class 6–12) for History, Geography, Polity, and Science. Read a good newspaper daily for current affairs.
Choose one optional subject wisely. Make a timetable and follow it regularly. Stay consistent and revise often.

The Commission will release the UPSC ESE 2026 Mains exam schedule on the official website at upsc.gov.in. Candidates who have will cleare the Prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the Mains exam on June 21, 2026. The schedule of the Mains exam once released will also be mentioned here:

After clearing the UPSC Civil Services Exam, candidates undergo training at LBSNAA (Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration).
The Foundation Course lasts about 3–4 months, followed by specific service training (e.g., IAS, IPS) which can extend the total training to approximately 2 years.
The training includes academic sessions, physical training, field visits, and attachments with various government bodies.
