Hi,
Candidates appearing for the VITEEE in 2017 should have secured an aggregate of 60% in physics, chemistry, mathematics / biology in the qualifying examination (12th / intermediate). The average marks obtained in the subjects physics, chemistry and mathematics or biology (PCM / PCB) in 12th (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:
Candidates belonging to SC/ST.For candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

The syllabus of VITEEE is similar to CBSE boards. Take a look at the syllabus. It has a few extra topics which you need to study from somewhere else. There would 125 questions to be attempted in 2.5 hours. You must be fast and accurate.
For maths, practice as much as you can. The more you practice, the better you get. Calculus and vector has a good weightage. Make a list of all the important formulas.
For chemistry, working on organic part is recommended. Practice the reactions properly. Physical chemistry is quite easy.
For physics, practice numerical and give importance to magnetism, electrostatics and modern physics. Other chapters are important too but I found these chapters a bit more important.
Do solve previous year VITEEE question paper which will help you in getting familiar with the paper.

If you don't have home-sickness phobia and are absolutely fine to pursue courses in other states, then I would suggest you to appear for as many states as possible. Better opt for those states where there are companies of your core stream. For example, pursuing mechanical engineering in Bangalore is not a good choice as the city is dominated by the IT industry. Similarly, studying IT in West Bengal isn't a good choice as the state doesn't have too many IT companies.
If there are more companies related to the stream you're studying, the chances of on-campus placement increases. Else, you'll have to depend on off-campus placement which is generally tougher and more competitive.
Further, every state in India has its own list of good colleges. Just because of geographical conditions, I don't consider it wise to skip a better college. I hope it clarifies.
As you haven't stated the stream in which you wish to pursue engineering, I won't be able to suggest you any recommendations.
