Yes, getting into Punjab Agricultural University is tough. The university is one of the most sought-after agricultural universities in India and the competition for admission is very high. The university has a limited number of seats available for each program. This means that there are more applicants than seats available, which makes the competition for admission very high. The university conducts an entrance exam for admission to most of its programs.

If you are thinking about placement and your career, I would suggest you to avoid Punjab Agricultural University at any cost. There's no placement and even if they are mostly in sales department that a candidate eventually leave. You should consider any other University if you don't want to regret later in your life. I have done graduation and post graduation from here and till date I haven't seen any one offering lucrative packages. There's no work culture over here, all you would learn in the course of your degree is going and dealing with clerical staff.

As far as I remember, last year the exam was of two and half hours and the total marks was 180. Though ICAR doesn't provide a marks vs. rank statistics, nor does it release the marks of the students in its results, nor does it allow students to take the offline paper home, so I can't give an exact value of the cutoff score. I think you should aim for something above 100 as the competition is quite stiff. A rank within 2000 will guarantee you a seat in the first counseling itself, while the second counseling ends at a rank around 7k.
