Hi, There are two part to the first level entrance test- Creative Ability Test CAT and General Ability Test (GAT). CAT is the most important part of the question paper. Start sketching and develop your own style of sketching and coloring. I can not stress this enough. Good drawing skills are very important. How you present/draw your ideas is just as important as the idea itself. Keep reading the newspaper (especially around November-December) It'll help you in GK part of GAT and help you generate better ideas. Most questions in CAT are related to current scenarios. For example- Make in India was started in late 2014 and in the 2015 entrances Hi had asked the students to make a mascot and a poster to promote the same. Based on the happenings and big stories in the media, plan and create small sketches. This was you'll save time on thinking during the actual exams. Go through various artists on social medias, movies, art galleries etc. To find inspiration. Go through question papers from the previous years and see what kind of questions they ask. Start solving these question papers in the given time and work on pacing yourself. For that, you can pick up any reference book. Math, logic and English are mostly what you've learned in school but it's better to revise. Keep solving the previous question papers so you can get into the habit of thinking along those lines. You can pick up any test series or books from Arihant publication. They usually have a summary of the portion. Check out other artist's work on Instagram, Interest, Behance, etc. So that you can improve your drawing skill and understand what the rest of the world is doing.

Hi,
As you are not a resident of India, you can apply through the NRI quota. There is a whole different process for NRI applicants.

Hope this helps.

Hello Stefanie,
There are 2 courses offered by NIFT:
1) Bachelor of design
2) Bachelor of fashion technology
First decide which course you want to go for.
There are 2 phases for getting into Bachelor of Design and 1 phase for getting into Bachelor of Fashion Technology.
Both are different courses offering different curriculum for building you as per job perspective.
Bachelor of Design consists of fashion design, knitwear design, fashion communication, leather design, textile design and accessory design.
For B.Design, you need to appear for CAT and GAT and if you are shortlisted then you are called for a situation test.
CAT Consist of drawing which you need to crack on the frequency of your creativity and GAT is general aptitude (English, maths, analytical and GK) and in situation test, you are asked to make a 3D model from the material provided to you.
For B.Fashion technology, there is only GAT.
You should keep checking the website as the forms are available every year in the month of October or late September. Do read the prospectus.
12th marks are not counted for admission until this academic year but if there are any changes, they will be mentioned in the prospectus.
Sample question paper is provided on the website which you help you get an idea about the exam.
Exam is not that tough but if you study, you will definitely get through.
Once the result is out, last year Common Merit Rank list is uploaded on the website, you will get admission on the basis of your Common Merit Rank (CMR).
Be focused, keep practicing.
You can refer to Arihant Publications book for GAT and for CAT, keep practicing drawings, human anatomy, posters, sequential drawings, depicting emotions through colors, perspective drawing helps a lot.
I wouldn't suggest any coaching classes.
Keep checking the website and read newspapers and watch ads and most of all, be updated.

NIFT is centrally organized institute i.e. the head office (NIFT Delhi) makes the decision, about campus, it totally depends on you and how you grab quickly. May it be Delhi, Mumbai or Srinagar campus, if you do what is asked and by your perspective and ergonomics of the design, which will help your work/design be usable, campus won't make much difference? It is also about how well the campus is accessible which will help you go to the market and buy the things which are needed for the course. Himachal has NIFT Kangra, but even NIFT Delhi is near to the place where you are studying right now. I would suggest you, to you prioritize your course and not the campus.

If you want to learn something like styling which is also an integral part of fashion photography I would suggest choosing fashion design otherwise fashion communication would be the best option for you.
