NIFT Mumbai Admission 2026: Fees, Eligibility, Selection Criteria & Dates

NIFT Mumbai accepts entrance exam of NIFT which has two written tests: CBT based GAT (General Ability Test) and paper-pen mode CAT (Creative Ability Test). For UG courses it is followed by Situation Test and for PG courses it is followed by Personal Interview round.

No, you cannot take direct admission at NIFT Mumbai. The college offers merit-based admission based on the scores in NIFT exam. Merit is calculated based on score in GAT, CAT exam as well as situation test and personal interview. Candidates need to clear the cutoff of exam and fulfill the eligibility criteria. 

The total seat intake for NIFT Mumbai MDes course is 43, including all the categories such as Open, SC, ST, OBC (NCL), GEN- EWS, PwD (Open, SC, ST and OBC (NCL). For the NRI/ Foreign Nationals category, the National Institute of Fashion Technology Mumbai MDes total seat intake is 5.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology Mumbai, popularly known as NIFT Mumbai provides degrees in the field of Fashion Technology, and Design at UG, PG, Diploma, and Certificate levels. The college offers various programmes such as BDEs, B F Tech, MDes, MFM, Diploma and Certifications. It is also important that aspirants should clear the course-specific eligibility criteria for admission.

To be eligible for admission to the BDes course, the OBC AI students need to secure a rank of 2885 or below. Students can refer to the table below for the round 1 and last round closing ranks of various courses for this category. 

The candidate has to select their admission category at the time of filling out the NIFT 2024 application form. The candidate must make sure that they have the requisite valid and verificable certificate supporting their category.

Note that the category selected by a candidate at the time of submitting the application form will be considered as final.

If a candidate selects a reserved category i.e. SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/EWS/PWD but fails to submitted a valid Category Certificate, he or she will be considered for open category seats provided any benefit of relaxed age or income or cut offs has not been availed by the candidate at any stage of the Admission Process. If any benefit has been availed, the candidate’s application will be rejected. 

Also, if a reserve category candidate is considered for open category, then he/she will have to pay the difference in amount of application fee as applicable for open category.

The NIFT 2026 registration window is now closed. With a late fee of INR 5,000, candidates were apply online until Jan 19. Further, the phase 1 exam was held on  Feb 8, 2026.

The total fee is around INR 150,000 per semester. The scholarship provided is called SARTHAK and it provides financial aid to economically weaker students.
For scholarships, you have to provide documents like Aadhar card, pan card, your bank details and your last one-year transaction details of bank, your income certificate.
The scholarship is only for tuition fees and the student has to take care of the food and lodging expenses.

NIFTEE 2026 was conducted on February 08, 2026. Written tests comprised a General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). GAT is mandatory for all candidates, but CAT is only required for B. Des and M. Des candidates.
