For the general category under All India, the opening rank was 3260 and the closing rank was 8741. Cutoffs are different when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even the domicile of the home state. In All India, the opening and closing rank for female candidates was 10182 and 15241. Admission to BTech (Hons) in Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Jamshedpur is based on the scores obtained in the JEE Main entrance exam. Applicants are advised to confirm what category are they applying while checking for cutoffs.

The cutoff trend for BTech at NIT Jamshedpur has been increasing in the recent years. In 2021, the closing rank for BTech under the General category for all India quota was 44974. In 2022, it increased to 47706. Likewise, the cut off ranks have changed from 61870 to 57695 for OBC, 142481 to 134751 for SC, 7010 to 193604 for ST, 52349 to 50298 for EWS, 39104 to 2012 for PWD. This trend is likely to continue in the coming years, as the demand for engineering education in India continues to grow. Similar cut off trend can be seen for female candidates under all categories however the ranks are slightly different.

Both the NITs are good on their own. As per the NIRF ranking 2023, NIT Patna is ranked 56, while NIT Jamshedpur has been awarded the rank band of 101–151. The flagship course of both institutes is BTech.During NIT Patna placements 2023, a total of 639 offers were made during placements 2023 so far. The highest package and average package offered during NIT Patna placements 2023 stood at INR 52 LPA and INR 13.30 LPA, respectively.NIT Jamshedpur has concluded its placement drive for 2023. Over 750 job offers made to BTech, MCA, MSc, and other courses. More than 250 companies visited the campus, including over 90 new recruiters. The average package and highest package stood at INR 15.98 LPA and INR 83.40 LPA, respectively. The highest package offered during 2023 placements was almost 15% higher than the amount offered in 2022.From the above observations, candidates can choose between NIT Patna and NIT Jamshedpur.
