As of now game design is yet to make its brand as one of the traditional degrees to pursue. Despite this you can pursue courses like B.Des, M.Des, BA/ MA, Diploma, in Game Design. A popular way of learning game design concepts is still through short-term certification courses.

Game Design & Game Development are closely related. To pursue game design requires - creativity, storytelling, good artistic abilities etc.
If you want to get into more detailed processes of game development consider working on skills like - programming, game engines (Unity/Unreal), prototyping, scripting (C#/C+) etc.

Game design is a part of the broader domain of game development. The domain is new in India but seems to grow gradually. My advice would be to pursue this field with a backup plan in hand, for example, UX, UI Designers, Software Developers, Animation professionals etc. Don't limit yourself to a concentrated set of skills. The scope of Game Design abroad is higher in terms of the number of jobs and pay scale than in India.
