Game design is a part of the broader domain of game development. The domain is new in India but seems to grow gradually. My advice would be to pursue this field with a backup plan in hand, for example,  UX, UI Designers, Software Developers, Animation professionals etc. Don't limit yourself to a concentrated set of skills. The scope of Game Design abroad is higher in terms of the number of jobs and pay scale than in India.

Hi Akin!
Yes, there are exams conducted by each institute for B.Des in game design. There is a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) that happens as an entrance test in all the colleges offering Bachelors course in game design. The test includes general aptitude as well as a Creative Aptitude Test. You will have to prepare for English Language test, Analytical ability test and general awareness. Apart from that, your drawing and sketching skills need to be brushed up.
