Game Design & Game Development are closely related. To pursue game design requires - creativity, storytelling, good artistic abilities etc.
If you want to get into more detailed processes of game development consider working on skills like - programming, game engines (Unity/Unreal), prototyping, scripting (C#/C+) etc.

Game design is a part of the broader domain of game development. The domain is new in India but seems to grow gradually. My advice would be to pursue this field with a backup plan in hand, for example, UX, UI Designers, Software Developers, Animation professionals etc. Don't limit yourself to a concentrated set of skills. The scope of Game Design abroad is higher in terms of the number of jobs and pay scale than in India.

Gaming is a fairly new domain in India to be working in. With the growing craze of gaming among the youth there are people looking to make it in the technical or behind the scenes/ screens part of the same. Though the game design scope is moderate in India, it is comparatively higher abroad.

Game Design is the art part of the broader game development domain. While game development involves use of C+, C#, Python, game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, debugging, optimization, mathematical competence, linear algebra, trigonometry etc. Game Design is more of a creative process that forms the base of a video game and its user interface.

Game design courses offer a deeper understanding of player psychology, interface and user experience of a game. These courses come in certificates, diplomas, B.Des, M.Des, etc. The eligibility and admission for game design courses vary as per the course type, academic level and colleges.
