To be straight;For NITs and State Level engineering college, you need to score in JEE Mains Exam. However, for IITs and other national level engineering colleges you need to score in JEE Advance. Your Selection is also depends upon your category. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Once a student has all these criteria then he is to appear for JEE Mains first and if clearing it, then JEE Advanced. There are two exams.
1st is JEE Mains and another is JEE Advanced.
After qualifying Mains, you are eligible for JEE Advanced and if you qualify Advanced, you can get admission in IIT on the basis of your rank.

Generally, crossing cut-off in JEE Mains can get you in an NIT during counselling. But that doesn't always happen. You need to perform a little more than just crossing over the cut-off. If you do well in Advanced, you will get into IIT.

Some of the colleges have their personal admission test exam like BITSAT. Also, in some of the colleges, you can get admission on the basis of your JEE Mains marks or your class 12th mark.

First of all, I am very sad to say that with such a percentage, you cannot think of getting admission for B.Sc in astrophysics. This field demands a percentage of 80% or above. If you want to fulfill your dream, please go for 12th improvement examination though its a very tough decision to take think twice what you want from yourself. Well, being a bio student you cannot opt for an IIT to study B.Tech as IIT admission is strictly on the basis of JEE scores. Though, there are colleges like:
1. SRM.
