If you are interested in civil aviation, you should be from science background in class 11th and 12th (PCM). After completing class 12th, you can register with a flying club, recognized by the DGCA. In order to practice as a pilot, you need to obtain a series of licenses such as SPL, PPL, CPL and ALTPL, which are based on the number of hours of flying training you progressively gain and by passing exams at each stage.

Pilot or aviation course can be done after completing class 12th or even after you complete your B.Tech in mechanical.

If you want to opt engineering as a career option, you first need to have strong fundamental knowledge on physics, chemistry and mathematics. In this 4 year course, you have to do lot of assignments and projects and seminars and presentations. And maintaining your CGPA is also important to get a good job. Besides this, engineering life is quite enjoyable also. So, I advice you to go for it.
