Yes, You can work as an architect, architectural assistant, architectural historian/journalist, project assistant manager, architectural designer, architect-engineer, building contractor, or an interior designer after completing your B.Arch course.

Compared to B.Tech, Arch is far more difficult but provides with competitive remuneration. Only those with strong physical stamina, patience, responsibility, creative thinking, and sketching abilities should pursue a degree in architecture.

Yes, completing a professional internship as part of the B.Arch. curriculum is mandatory. This internship, usually in the final year, provides practical experience, helping students apply theoretical knowledge to real-world architectural projects.

Commerce students without Mathematics are generally not eligible to apply for B.Arch courses in India. Most colleges require candidates to have completed their Class 12 education with Physics Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects alongwith a minimum aggregate score of 50%. This requirement is essential because the curriculum of architecture heavily relies on mathematical concepts. Students must also qualify for entrance exams like NATA or JEE Main Paper 2, which further emphasise the need of a strong foundation in mathematics. Without Mathematics in Class 12 it may therefore not be feasible to pursue a B.Arch on completion.

In 2024, the BArch cutoff at IIEST Shibpur witnessed a huge shift from previous years. The closing rank for the general category was 2166, whereas in 2023 it was 855 and in 2022 it was 1034. This upward trend in cutoff ranks shows that there is less competition for the programme this year. In addition, the cut-off ranks for the past three years have varied, indicating changing applicant performance and interest levels in the BArch programme, also indicating changes in demand as well as academic standards among potential applicants.

The Bachelor of Architecture programme at IIEST Shibpur closed at 2166 in Round 5 for the category of General All India under the 2024 admission cycle. This rank is taken as a cut-off rank to guarantee admission to the course based on scores secured by students in JEE Main. The cutoff trends over the last few years have been fluctuating, and 2024 indicates a rise in the closing rank, which means less competition for this specialisation compared to previous years. These rankings are decided through the counselling process of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
