B.Sc Biotechnology

Rajiv Gandhi institute of IT and Biotechnology offers a BSc in Biotechnology that is extended over three years. The programme curriculum is based on the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS). The curriculum is divided into six semesters. In each semester, candidates have to study a combination of subjects broadly categorised as Major Courses, Minor Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs), Ability Enhancement Courses (AECs), Open Elective Courses (OECs), etc. Some subjects included in the BSc curriculum are Biostatistics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, etc. These subjects include theoretical and practical subjects. 

Students seeking admission to the BSc in Biotechnology programme of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of IT and Biotechnology must appear for Bharati Vidyapeeth's BV-ABOP entrance test. They can apply for the entrance test by registering online at the BVP’s application portal. The result will be declared on BVP's official website. Candidates must log in to the application portal to check their result as the institute does not send personal mails. Seats will be allotted to the applicants based on their score in the entrance test, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria. Selected candidates must report at the university campus for counselling and document verification. Shortlisted candidates must confirm their admission by paying the requisite yearly tuition fee.

Total Semester tuition fee for B.Tech Biotechnology is INR 1,50,900 and development fee & other charges are INR 68,000, making the total semester fee INR 2,18,900.

To take admission at Thapar University, a candidate must have passed the Class 12th or equivalent examination with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) in an aggregate of three subjects, namely, physics, chemistry, and biology. 

And the admission is based on the candidate’s performance in the NEET examination, followed by a counselling process. 50% of the seats will be filled based on NEET scores, and the remaining 50% will be filled based on merit of marks obtained in Class 12th or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects.

BSc Biotechnology duration is 3 year. BTech Biotechnology is 4 years long. BSc Biotechnology is more relaxed than BTech. The number of coursework and lab work will be less and you will be introduced to the core subjects right from the first year whereas in BTech 1st year will have common engineering coursework (Refer any university syllabus) with very little or no core subjects.

From 2nd year there will be 6 or 7 coursework and 3 or 4 lab works to complete in each semester. This can change from one university to another but it won't be less than that. Most BSc courses may not include chemical engineering papers which have lots of math, equations, derivations and stuff. Chemical engineering is a major part of the BTech syllabus.
