Though the level of competitiveness largely depends on the specific exam that you're preparing for admission to BTech EE course, they are generally considered highly competitive. This is because of the popularity of the engineering specialisation among students. For national level exams like JEE Main and JEE Advanced there is cutthroat competition at top colleges.

A somewhat similar picture can also be seen for state-level and college-level exams. So, you need to put in extra effort and work really hard to get excellent marks in the entrance exam and get a seat at a top college.

Pros:

Time Efficiency: You save a year compared to doing BTech and M.Tech separately.

Specialization: You graduate with a strong focus in Power Engineering, which is valuable for jobs in energy, utilities, and core electrical companies.

Higher Qualification: An M.Tech may open doors to research roles, teaching, or higher-tier government/PSU jobs that require post-grad degrees.

Gate Exemption (Sometimes): Some institutes allow direct M.Tech transition without needing to crack GATE.

No it's not. Every college has its own coursework pattern, means their own core subjects, elective subject choices, lab work, and projects. Having said that, the BTech Electrical Engg. course concepts taught in classes are more or less the same to give the students as much knowledge of the basic concepts of the field as possible during the 4-year time span.

The syllabus for the B Tech EE course focuses on both aspects because they are equally important for you to do well at the workplace in the future. There are theory classes to make you understand the meaning and workings of the Electrical Engineering concepts, and practical lab work and industrial training to give you a glimpse of the real-world applications.
