The PGCET is a pivotal entrance examination for engineering graduates aiming to secure a Master's degree in state-governed and top-tier private institutions. For an Electrical Engineering aspirant, this exam serves as a gateway to specialised fields like Power Systems, Control Systems, and VLSI Design. Unlike national-level exams that can be overwhelmingly competitive, the PGCET offers a balanced platform for students to demonstrate their technical proficiency within their home state, ensuring access to quality higher education and better local networking opportunities.

If you are a student of a Rajkiya Engineering College (AKTU) and studying Electrical Engineering, then a 610 LPA placement is definitely possible, though it is primarily due to off-campus preparation. Core companies seldom visit such colleges hence you need to develop skills that will expose you to more opportunities.

The most realistic and high-demand jobs in the 6-10 LPA job range are:

  • Software /IT (Developer, QA, Support Engineer)
  • Machine Learning / Data Analytics.
  • The only electrical core jobs that tend to provide low packages are those that do not crack the PSUs.

2. Learn In-Demand Skills

The department has modern labs like Power Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Power Electronics, and more, which help you actually build and test things, not just read about them. The curriculum is updated with electives so you can specialize in areas like Energy Systems or Instrumentation if that interests you. The Department of Career Planning and Development (DCPD) does a decent job setting up internships and helping with interview prep, so you get exposure before you graduate. The campus life is active, the classrooms are decent, and there are good peer groups to l

Electrical Engineering at Chandigarh University is honestly a good choice if you're serious about both core engineering and future technologies. The programme is accredited by NBA and ABET, which means it's recognised globally. What I liked most is the flexibility – you can pick specializations like Power Systems, Energy Systems, Electric Vehicles, or Control & Instrumentation. On top of that, CU gives you a chance to study AI as a minor and even earn Microsoft certifications like Azure AI Fundamentals. The labs are well-equipped, and there's even a HARTEK Innovation Lab for sustainability. With workshops,
