The opportunities for botany graduates are spread over both public and private sectors. In public sector, the opportunities arise in areas like public health service, national park services, department of agriculture, forest service, departments of conservation and land management. In private sector, the opportunities lie in oil industry, food companies, SEED companies, fruit growers and biotechnology firms. Botany as a field has seen a radical growth in recent years. Owing to the rapid expansion of this sector, a number of fields open up for botany graduates to excel in such as food companies, forest services, biotechnology, educational institutions, biological supply houses, national parks, plant resources laboratory, arboretum, chemical industry, food companies, plant health inspection services, SEED and nurseries companies and land management agencies. Salary trend of M.Sc. Botany graduates depends on the industry and job profile. In research field the remuneration is very high for botany graduates. Apart from this they can also work in food or SEED production companies which also offer handsome pay packages.

The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Services Selection Board (UPSESSB) conducts an examination for the selection of candidates for the post of trained graduate teachers (UP-TGT) in government schools of the state. The basic essential requirement is that one must be at least 21 years of age and have a Bachelor's degree. For TGT (Science), the essential requirement is:
B.Sc in Physics and Chemistry as well as a B.Ed. From a recognised university. For TGT Biology the essential requirement is:
B.Sc with Biology Zoology and Botany) and a B.Ed. Degree from a recognised university. Therefore, you may be eligible for TGT Biology if you have a B.Ed. Degree along with a graduate degree.
