Below is the list of items you would need while doing calligarphy in my opinion: 

  • A nib holder 
  • Two different nibs 
  • Two inks 
  • Practice sheets 
  • A straight pen 
  • An oblique pen 
  • 32# laserjet paper 
  • Sumi ink 
  • A screw-top container to store the ink 
  • A non-fibrous cloth to clean the nib

It depends on the student. It can take a day to learn the basics, but it takes practice to become proficient. For most people, it takes about two months and if you are very passionate about doing Calligraphy then you can also excel within a week or two.
