Yes, GMAT is required for most MBA programs in Canada. It is also one of the most important criteria for admissions. If you are planning to study in a Canadian business school, you must score high in this exam.
Note:
For international students, GMAT is required not just for admission to the MBA program but also for student visa. Your chances of getting a student visa are weakened if you do not take the GMAT, even if you have an admission from a business school.

If you have very good grades you can check university scholarships. You can also check scholarship opportunities through organisations like Aga Khan, Inlaks Scholarships,'International Leader of Tomorrow Award', etc. Besides every college and university awards scholarship to good students. If nothing works take an education loan, check with banks like SBI, PNB etc.

5 years of gap is a huge concern. Your grades are good and it seems you have improved overall however admissions will be challenging and will depend on the teacher recommendation letters, statement of purpose, the university's acceptance rate, etc. I will advice you to email the universities before applying.
