Indeed, as you have a 92 percentile in JEE Main it is fairly good option to be admitted to B.Tech Chemical Engineering. Maybe getting a seat in high-level NITs, such as Trichy or Warangal, will be quite a challenge to you in General category, but here you can consider mid-level NITs (e.g., NIT Durgapur, NIT Hamirpur, NIT Srinagar) or GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). Depending on your category (OBC/SC/ST/EWS), home state quota and overall cutoffs of 2025 depending on which year keep changing each year. It is recommendable to take an active part in JoSAA and CSAB counselling rounds and also take into account admission to s

Top-tier options include: Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) like Kharagpur, Bombay, Delhi; National Institute of Technology (NITs such as Trichy, Warangal, Calicut); University Departments at Jadavpur University (Kolkata), Institute of Chemical Technology (Mumbai), and Anna University (Chennai). With a JEE Main 2nd paper EWS category rank of 90354 it is highly unlikely that you will get admission in NIT Agartala for chemical engineering as the closing ranks for the EWS category in recent year for chemical engineering are significantly lower for example in 2025 the EWS category closing rank for chemical engineering in NIT Agartala was around 53344 based on one source and for the general AI category in 2025 the closing ranks were between 20541 and 58197

You can definitely get admission to the BTech Chemical Engineering course without giving the entrance test as there are several good colleges that take in students considering their Class 12 board exam marks and often take extra rounds like the GD or PI. Out of the 360 colleges offering the course, there are more than 85 colleges that solely take into account the Class 12 scores for admission.

The college ranking plays a very important role for the BTech Chemical Engineering college selection. A solid ranking in charts speaks volumes about the college's academics, faculty, infrastructure, and networking opportunities. However, it should not be the sole deciding factor.
You should look for the course fees, practical lab work, industrial exposure, placement records, and alumni feedback to take the final call.
