I dont really have an idea about the civil branch but I think you can get it at some nit as the cutoff for civil is quite low as compared to cse. Although nit delhi does not offer civil as one of its courses in my opinion.

Which is better an orange or a lime? Both are fruits and both are citrics. Or better a heart surgeon or a brain surgeon? Both made surgery.
My point, architects and civil engineers are different, make different things and have different specialties, their fields cross paths all the time, but they are not the same. They can do more or lest the same things but that does not means they have the same qualifications.

You can definitely go for lateral entry programs in engineering and get direct admission to 2nd year in B.Tech. Most of the universities are offering lateral entry program. You should select a good university and contact them for further details. Suggesting a few best colleges -

See subarna,it totally lies in your interest.it is suggested to first study about the field and see if your comfortness lies in it for long run.all of these streams are doing equally good .in my opinion Automobile is a very good stream to get admission as it will provide you a great career in top Automobile company which is a dream job of any mechanical Engineer but i would like to recommend you to select the university cautiously as in this stream along with technical skills one also need to boost your practical ideas .here are some of the colleges where you can get admission by availing high scholarship:
