What was the application fee for the IAS 2023?

The IAS application fee was given in the official UPSC notification. The IAS application fee for the prelims exam was INR 100 only. For the candidates belonging to the female category, SC and ST categories and PwD category were exempted to pay any fee for the IAS exam. The application fee for the IAS Main 2023 exam is INR 200.

When can the candidate apply for IAS Exam?

The candidates can apply for the IAS exam within twenty days of the Civil Service Exam notification. Union Public Service Commission releases the official notification in the first week of February every year.

in 2026, the Commission will release the Civil Service notification on January 14 and the last date to apply online will be February 3, 2025.

UPSC IAS 2023 notification was released online on February 1, 2023. The IAS applications 2023 were closed on February 21. The candidates can read and understand the IAS eligibility criteria for next year's applications. The candidates have to register for the UPSC exams before applying for the IAS exam. The candidates can see here the steps to apply online (after registration): Most of the details are taken from the registration form. Is UPSC release the IAS result with names also?

Yes, the Union Public Service Commission mention the names of the selected candidates in the IAS results. The Commission releases the result with names separately. Firstly the UPSC releases the result containing the roll numbers only but later it releases the names of the selected candidates too. This procedure is followed to crosscheck and verify the result and the selected candidates.

Can a candidate appeal against the UPSC result?

The candidate can appeal against the UPSC result but it would be very difficult that the candidate can win against UPSC because the procedure followed by the UPSC is very transparent and the same is submitted in the Courts when asked for by the court. The candidates can win only if they secure more than their category cutoff but still, they were declared failed in the UPSC result.

The IAS prelims result is declared based on the marks secured in the General Studies Paper-I only. The General Studies-Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying only and the candidates need to score 33% marks in the General Studies Paper-II. The candidates who do not score 33 per cent marks in the General Studies paper -II (CSAT), such candidates do not clear the IAS prelims exam. The marks secured in the IAS prelims are not counted for the final merit list.

The marks of the last candidate selected in the IAS exam differ each year. It is a competitive exam and the candidates are arranged in the order of their merit. This merit list is compared with the number of vacancies available that year. The Commission select only that many candidates who are required to fulfil the available vacancies. The marks of the last selected candidate in a particular category are called the Cutoff for that category. There are no minimum marks mentioned to get into IAS or IPS. The candidates need to check the cutoff of their category.

Every year, 180 candidates are recruited for the IAS. The candidate from each category is assigned to the IAS according to the rank in their respective category. The General Category candidate under rank 100 can expect to get an IAS. For other categories, it is difficult to ascertain a rank for getting the IAS but for the OBC, if the candidate secures under 150 rank, he or she can get the IAS easily.
