There is no need to take any specific group in intermediate to become an IAS officer. You can pursue any stream of your interest in your Intermediate. Candidates who have passed Bachelor's degree course in any discipline from a recognised university are eligible to apply for IAS examination.

You need to make time table for your study. Regarding books you can consult with NCERT (class 9th-class 12th) for basic knowledge and other can be viewed at UPSC portal.

To clear it in the first attempt will require hardwork along with dedication and goal oriented study. Try to choose the subject in which you are strong in, generally, students choose History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, or Sociology to crack the exam in the first attempt.
