Merchant Navy officers are working along ships. These sail in waters and as a result you are away from home for long periods of time. So, to compensate, many companies offer such arrangement but it's not the rule.

Please remove this wrong notion of finance deciding your choice of subjects. What should decide your selection of subject is only your passion. Almost every choice requires similar amount of money except perhaps medical that requires really huge amount.
So first find your passion.

There are plenty of exams that you can take. But that should not be the issue. You should decide to study only in the subject for which you have passion or great interest. First decide on this and doors will open up for you.

These days, marks scored in HSC are only to determine whether you are eligible or not. Every institution conducts its own exam to determine merit. Hence, you will have to look for advertisement and apply immediately.

It's very nice to know your dream of doing diploma in ME from a private college. But if I may ask, why private? There are very good govt colleges too. Anyway. Unfortunately, you have not mentioned your state. But these days almost all states have online process for admission and you have to follow it. Only if your score is good, you will get college of your desire.
Best wishes
