The history of College of the Rockies goes back to the year 1971, when a vocational school was established that would serve the East Kootenay region. In 1975, East Kootenay Community College was established. The first classes of the college began in 1975. Then, in the year 1982, the Cranbrook campus was opened. In May 1995, a request from East Kootenay Community College to change its name to the College of the Rockies was approved.

As per the unofficial sources, College of the Rockies acceptance rate is 100%. This means that the college is less selective at the time of admission. So, the applicants who have an exceptional academic record have a higher chance of getting admission to this college. To further increase the chances of admission, the applicants must meet the entry requirements and application requirements. The general academic requirement is to have completed a secondary school education. Also, the applicants must have the English language score too. Accepted test scores are PTE / TOEFL / IELTS.

By the 2022/23 academic year, the enrollment at College of the Rockies have risen to more than 2,300 full-time equivalent students at all the campuses. There are around 200 international full-time equivalent students from more than 30 countries. A number of programs are offered by COTR. These programs are offered at Diploma, Certificate, and Associate level. One bachelor’s level programme is also offered.

If the students graduate from an academic programme of COTR, they can apply for a post-graduation work permit. To be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit, the applicants should meet the following conditions:

  • Successfully completed a Certificate of at least 8 months in length or a 2-year Diploma, or the 4-year BBA degree from the College of the Rockies
  • Note that a 3-year work permit is available to students who have completed a 2-year Diploma or the 4-year BBA degree
  • In case, the programme was less than 2 years (Certificate), then the work permit length cannot be longer than the length of your program
