LMU acceptance rate for international students is around 10%. Whereas, the acceptance rate for TUM is around 8% - 10%. This means that both of these universities are very selective at the time of admission. Both universities are tuition free, located in Munich and part of Germany's elite Excellence Universities. However, which university to choose for higher studies and which one is better depends on students' preference, location, faculty, reputation and rankings of the university, campus environment, etc. A comparison of both these universities is given below:

For the programs that are being taught in German at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, evidence of German language proficiency test is required. Indian students have to submit these English language proficiency tests too for the programs whose language of instruction is German. The language certificates in German that are accepted at this university are:
- DSH 2
- TestDAF
- One of other C1/CD certificates
At the time of applying to this university, the applicants must have knowledge on the B2 level.

According to unofficial sources, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology acceptance rate is around 26%. This demonstrates that university is tough to get into. University usually prioritizes academic qualification, English language proficiency, interview and applicant background. To improve chances of selection, students must aim to score high in academics and perform best in interviews.

The semester fee is a standard fee that students enrolled at TUM have to pay in addition to their current tuition cost.
This fee comprises of the basic student union fee, & is charged to pay for the services students access over the duration of studies.
Students at the Munich, Heilbronn, Garching and Weihenstephan campus have to pay an fee of around EUR 85 (INR 8.5 K) per semester, while those at Straubing have to pay a fee of around EUR 82 (INR 8.1 K).
